It starts with your questions
When someone tells me they want to buy their first home but don’t know where to start, I tell them that’s great, and I ask if they have any questions before getting started.
You’re not expected to know how any of this works. The worries I hear most are needing 20% or more for a down payment, not having strong enough credit, and not qualifying for enough of a mortgage. Whatever’s on your mind, I’m happy to talk it through, in plain language.
Then, your application
Once your questions are answered, or if you don’t have any, the application is where it starts, and I’ll guide you from there.
You can start it online, right here on the site, and if anything on it isn’t clear, I’ll walk you through it.
What happens after that
I don’t want surprises, and neither do you. Here’s what happens after your application, all the way to your keys.
I’ll tell you exactly what documents I need and help you pull them together. Then I review your application, find the lender that fits, and send it in for approval.
Once you’re approved, everything goes to your lawyer’s office. On closing day, the day the home officially becomes yours, you get your keys.
You should feel comfortable with every page you sign. I’ll explain it as many times as it takes.
See how buying your first home on PEI works
Thinking about the PEI Down Payment Assistance Program? It has its own page, where I explain how it works.
What about going to my bank first?
Your bank can only show you its own products, not what else is available to you. There may be better options out there, and I’ll help you find the one that fits.
